Frostburg State University men’s soccer suffered its first loss of the season Sunday, falling 2-1 to Point Park in Pittsburgh, Pa. Point Park scored twice in the first half, and neither team found the net after halftime.
Point Park Scores Twice Before Halftime
The match featured three first-half goals and a total of 15 shots. Point Park opened the scoring when Lander Barrio Gonzalez assisted Hector Moreno, who chipped the ball past Frostburg State graduate goalkeeper Josiah Emerson.
Point Park doubled its lead 16 minutes later when Alejandro Vega Arteaga scored from outside the box following an assist from Edouard Gagnon. Frostburg State responded five minutes later, with sophomore Christ Fopossi curling a free kick into the top-right corner for his first goal of the season.
Frostburg State nearly equalized before halftime after freshman Abdullah Soulemana earned a penalty kick when he was fouled from behind on a header in the box. Graduate Mateo Cuadros took the attempt, but Point Park goalkeeper Anthony Fusay made the save.
Fusay Keeps Point Park Ahead
Cuadros later had a free kick denied by the wall as Point Park carried its 2-1 lead into halftime. Frostburg State created additional chances in the second half, but Point Park maintained the advantage.
Fopossi’s free kick found Soulemana, who set up Frank Stare at the back post. Stare’s goal-bound effort was blocked on the line and cleared away.
Fusay then made a double save on attempts by senior Anthony Diaz and Nate Kennedy. Kevin Garcia-Torres sent a late Frostburg State shot over the bar, and both teams had a player ejected during the final three minutes.
Frostburg State finished with six shots on goal, while Point Park recorded three. The result moved Frostburg State to 4-1-2 overall and improved Point Park’s record to 3-3-2.

Frostburg State University men’s soccer is scheduled to host Salem (WV) on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 p.m.
