Hood College men’s soccer team defeated Wilkes University 4-1 on Saturday, September 19, at Bruggeworth Field in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Hood College scored three first-half goals and carried a 3-0 lead into halftime before answering Wilkes University’s second-half goal just 30 seconds later.
Hood College Builds Three-Goal Halftime Lead
Brody Smith opened the scoring in the 29th minute after Lucas Godfroy and Aidan Wright helped set up the play. The goal marked Smith’s first for Hood College.
Omar Aguilar doubled Hood College’s advantage in the 33rd minute with an assist from Ange Simo. Aguilar also scored his first goal for Hood College.
Simo then converted a penalty kick in the three minutes before halftime to make it 3-0. He recorded his first goal of the season and added an assist in the victory.
Hood College Responds Quickly After Wilkes Goal
Giovanni Mazzola put Wilkes University on the scoreboard with a penalty kick in the 58th minute, trimming Hood College’s lead to 3-1. Cristian Topovich restored the three-goal advantage just 30 seconds later, scoring on a setup from Austin Heffner.
Topovich finished with three shots and scored his first goal of the season. Caleb Terry and Adrian Corsi each recorded a shot on target for Hood College.
Adam Labows made three saves and earned the win for Hood College. Kollin Purgason made one save in relief.
Hood College Hosts Elizabethtown College Next
Hood College is scheduled to host Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, September 23, at 7 p.m. at Thomas Athletic Field for the program’s annual Staff Appreciation game.
