University of Maryland, Baltimore County Men’s Soccer Falls 2-1 to William & Mary Tribe After Second-Half Rally

William & Mary Tribe scored twice in just over two minutes after halftime to defeat University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) men’s soccer 2-1 Saturday evening at Retriever Soccer Park.

The Retrievers held a 1-0 lead at halftime and fell to 3-3-1. William & Mary also improved to 3-3-1 with the win.

Logan Ehart Gives UMBC the Lead

Logan Ehart scored UMBC’s only goal with three seconds remaining in the first half, heading in a cross from Adamo Pantaleo. Earlier in the half, William & Mary goalkeeper Diego Garciarena saved a penalty kick from Jonas Nistad and then stopped another Nistad attempt from the top of the box. Garciarena punched the ball over the crossbar, resulting in a corner kick.

William & Mary Scores Twice

The Retrievers nearly doubled their advantage in the 50th minute, but Tancredi Fadda’s shot went wide from close range. William & Mary equalized in the 66th minute after Damen Burney headed the ball back toward Aidan Gatchell in the box, who scored from close range to tie the match.

William & Mary took the lead shortly afterward when Gabe Ruitenberg converted a penalty kick. The penalty followed a foul in the box after Michael DiOrio delivered the ball.

Retrievers Press Late

Freshman forward Flynn Holdem nearly tied the match with a header that floated just over the crossbar. Adamo Pantaleo later forced another save from Garciarena with a shot following a throw-in.

Garciarena finished with five saves for William & Mary, while UMBC goalkeeper Joe Pollard made seven saves. William & Mary recorded nine shots on goal to UMBC’s six.

UMBC men’s soccer is scheduled to host Navy on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at 7 p.m., with the venue not specified in the source.

MSB Analysis

UMBC carried a 1-0 lead into halftime after Ehart’s late goal, but William & Mary’s two-goal sequence after the break changed the result. Pollard’s seven saves kept the Retrievers within reach, but UMBC could not produce a second goal.
