Mount St. Mary’s University women’s soccer earns first win as Erin Antone scores late against Saint Peter’s University

Mount St. Mary’s University women’s soccer earned its first victory of the season Saturday, defeating Saint Peter’s University 3-2 in Jersey City, New Jersey. Erin Antone scored the game-winning goal in the 80th minute after the match had been tied 2-2.

The victory moved Mount St. Mary’s to 1-1-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play. Abby Makela made seven saves while Mount St. Mary’s finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots on goal.

Mount St. Mary’s University women’s soccer builds early lead

Payton Meara opened the scoring in the 15th minute on an assist from Fineen Cregan. It was Meara’s first goal of the season and the second of her career, while Cregan recorded her first assist as a Mountaineer. Cassidy Nichols added an unassisted goal three minutes later to give Mount St. Mary’s a 2-0 lead. The goal was Nichols’ second of the season and left her leading the team in goals.

Saint Peter’s answered with a goal from Elise Viggiano, assisted by Mayla McLean. Bianca Bellino scored the Peacocks’ equalizing goal in the 74th minute to make it 2-2.

Erin Antone delivers late winner

Mount St. Mary’s earned a penalty in the 78th minute, but Saint Peter’s goalkeeper Bregljot Kristinsdottir saved Antone’s attempt. Two minutes later, Antone scored the deciding goal to put Mount St. Mary’s ahead for good. Antone’s goal was her first of the season. Makela’s seven saves helped Mount St. Mary’s preserve the one-goal advantage.

Mount St. Mary’s is scheduled to travel to Rider on September 23, 2026. The match kicks off at 7 p.m. in Lawrenceville.
