Salisbury University Sea Gulls women’s volleyball split two matches at TowneBank Arena in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Sept. 19, 2026. Salisbury University swept the Benedictine (Ill.) Eagles, 3-0, before falling to the No. 18 Batten Marlins, 3-1, as Julie Altieri reached 3,002 career assists.
The Sea Gulls defeated Benedictine by set scores of 25-16, 25-15 and 25-16. Salisbury hit .230 in the match, held the Eagles to a minus-.011 hitting percentage and won the service-ace battle 9-2.
Salisbury University Sea Gulls Sweep Benedictine
Kiley McTaggart led Salisbury with 12 kills and 10 digs, recording her second double-double of the season. Amanda Meschi added 10 kills and nine digs, while Sophia Tapia contributed eight kills and five blocks.
Sophia Blaufuss paced the defensive effort with a match-high 14 digs. Mattox Adams recorded 18 assists through the first two sets, while Julie Altieri contributed nine assists while handling the third set.
Julie Altieri Reaches Salisbury Assist Milestone
Altieri recorded 30 assists and 12 digs against Batten, producing her third double-double of the season and 52nd career double-double. She became the fourth setter in Salisbury history to reach 3,000 career assists and finished the match with 3,002.
Altieri finished within 84 assists of third place on Salisbury’s program leaderboard. Her milestone came during a four-set match in which the Sea Gulls fell to Batten by set scores of 22-25, 23-25, 25-20 and 18-25.
Salisbury University Sea Gulls Fall to No. 18 Batten
Meschi recorded 13 kills and 10 digs against the Marlins, while McTaggart posted 11 kills, 10 digs and four service aces. Tapia added six kills and a team-high six blocks.
Blaufuss again led Salisbury defensively with a match-high 19 digs. The Sea Gulls hit .126 against Batten, which hit .225, while Salisbury held an 11-7 advantage in service aces.
Salisbury University is scheduled to play at Swarthmore on Sept. 25 at 6:30 p.m. as part of the Swarthmore Invitational. The Sea Gulls are then scheduled to play at DeSales on Sept. 26 at 1:30 p.m. and at Widener at 6:30 p.m.
