Howard Community College Women’s Volleyball Falls 3-0 to Frederick Community College as Zyon Austin Leads With 10 Kills

Howard Community College women’s volleyball lost 3-0 to Frederick Community College in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference play on Thursday in Columbia, Maryland. This marked the Dragons’ second consecutive home defeat.

Frederick Community College won the match by set scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-16. The loss dropped Howard Community College to 5-2 on the season, while Frederick improved to 5-1.

The Cougars opened the match with a 9-0 lead and won the first set 25-13. Frederick recorded 12 kills in the set, while the Dragons struggled to keep pace with their attack.

Howard stayed closer early in the second set, but Frederick held off a late rally to win 25-16. The Cougars closed the match with another 25-16 victory in the third set after recording 14 kills.

Zyon Austin Leads Howard Community College

Zyon Austin led the Dragons with 10 kills. Yusra Arenas added five kills, and Toriana Curry recorded three.

Abigail Nirola finished with 21 assists and two aces. Kira King led with eight digs, while Amelia Thomas added five blocks.

Frederick posted a .317 hitting percentage compared with .000 for Howard, indicating the Dragons were unable to register any successful kills relative to their attempts.

The Dragons are scheduled to play Chesapeake College on Saturday, September 19, at 11 a.m., presenting their next opportunity to rebound following two straight home losses.
