Goucher College field hockey earned its first win of the season Wednesday, defeating Lancaster Bible 6-0 in Baltimore, Md. Goucher improved to 1-4 overall, while Lancaster Bible fell to 1-3.
Madison Usher and Mimi Taff scored two goals each for Goucher. Ava Barnes added one goal, and Leydy Velasquez Pena scored the first collegiate goal of her career.
Goucher College Field Hockey Builds Early Lead
Madison Usher opened the scoring at 1:43 of the first quarter, and Ava Barnes added a goal at 4:00. Goucher led 2-0 after the opening quarter and extended its advantage when Mimi Taff scored at 19:41 of the second quarter.
Sienna Karas assisted on Taff’s first goal. Taff scored again at 39:09 of the third quarter, with Laureen Otieno providing the assist, as Goucher carried a 4-0 lead into the final quarter.
Usher scored her second goal at 46:10 of the fourth quarter. Leydy Velasquez Pena completed the scoring at 48:06, giving Goucher a 6-0 victory over Lancaster Bible.
Goucher Controls Shot Advantage
Goucher outshot Lancaster Bible 13-3 and held a 12-1 advantage in shots on goal. Lancaster Bible earned four penalty corners, compared with two for Goucher.
Katie Bloom played all 60 minutes in goal for Goucher and recorded one save. Lancaster Bible goalkeepers made six saves.
Goucher College Field Hockey Schedule
Goucher will travel to Sweet Briar on Saturday, Sept. 19, for a 12 p.m. contest. The game will follow Goucher’s first victory of the season.
