The No. 12 Stevenson University women’s field hockey team improved to 5-0 with a 4-0 victory over Elizabethtown on Tuesday in Elizabethtown, Pa. The win marked Stevenson’s fifth consecutive shutout, with Sydney Aylward contributing one goal and two assists.
Stevenson outshot Elizabethtown 18-8 overall and held a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal. Jordan Vradenburgh and Ollie Winterle split time in goal and combined to make two saves in the shutout.
Stevenson University Women’s Field Hockey Scores Three Second-Quarter Goals
After a scoreless first quarter, Hailey Mertz opened the scoring at the 17:10 mark of the second quarter with an assist from Sydney Aylward. Kailen Hibshman doubled the lead 20 seconds later, converting a penalty corner inserted by Lauren Schulz.
Shae Bennett added Stevenson’s third goal of the quarter off another assist from Aylward. Stevenson carried a 3-0 advantage into halftime before the teams played a scoreless third quarter.
Aylward completed the scoring in the fourth quarter with an assist from Monica Druckemiller. Aylward led Stevenson with four points, while Bennett, Hibshman and Mertz each recorded two points; Druckemiller and Schulz also added assists.
Stevenson University Women’s Field Hockey Set to Face No. 14 Ursinus
Stevenson will face its first ranked opponent of the season when it visits No. 14 Ursinus on Friday at 5 p.m. in Collegeville, Pa. The matchup will be Stevenson’s next contest after the 4-0 victory over Elizabethtown.
