Coppin State University Men’s Cross Country Finishes Second at Delaware State University Sting Invite

Coppin State University men’s cross country opened the 2026 season with a second-place finish at the Delaware State University Sting Invite at the Delaware State Research and Outreach Center in Smyrna, Del. The Eagles scored 47 points, behind host Delaware State University with 22.

Morgan State finished third with 85 points, followed by Maryland Eastern Shore, Lincoln (Pa.), Bowie State and Cheyney. Coppin State placed five runners among the top 13 finishers.

Coppin State University Men’s Cross Country Leaders

Senior Lucky Maila led Coppin State with a fifth-place finish in the 5K in 15:45.4. Senior Humed Nura placed sixth in 15:46.7, while senior Asa Francis finished 11th in 16:51.8.

Sophomore Elijah Hicks placed 12th in 17:18.7, and senior Etiam Torgbenu finished 13th in 17:20.4. The five scoring runners combined for a team time of 1:23:02, averaging 16:36 per runner.

Freshman Aaiden Clark finished 21st in 18:15.4, followed by freshman Elijah Collins in 24th at 18:25.6. Sophomore Xavier Grant placed 36th in 19:41.3.

Next Meet

Coppin State University is scheduled to return to action Saturday, Sept. 19, at the UMES Invite in Princess Anne, Md. The meet will be the Coppin State men’s cross country team’s next competition.
