The University of Maryland, Baltimore County women’s soccer team defeated the Longwood Lancers 2-0 on Sept. 13 at the Longwood Athletics Complex in Farmville, Va., scoring twice in a 1:49 span during the first half. The victory improved UMBC to 6-2-2, matched its 2025 win total, and completed its nonconference schedule with six victories.
Longwood fell to 3-4-2. UMBC’s six nonconference wins are its most since 2014, when the program won eight matches and reached the America East Conference semifinals.
UMBC Women’s Soccer Scores Twice in 1:49
Zoe Brossman opened the scoring with a penalty kick in the 31st minute. It was her third penalty-kick goal of the season after Delainey Proctor created the opportunity by advancing into the box and taking a shot that deflected off a Longwood defender’s hand.
UMBC scored again 1:49 later. Kristiana Kolega delivered a corner kick, Hailey Ahmed flicked the ball toward the back post, and Olivia Nardone finished the play for her second goal of the season.
Longwood goalkeeper Maddie Wessel kept the match scoreless early by punching away a curling effort from Payton Schenning in the seventh minute. The ball reached Brooke Clagett, whose shot was cleared off the line, and Clagett later recorded a career-high seven shots.
University of Maryland, Baltimore County Limits Longwood Chances
UMBC outshot Longwood 17-7 and held an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Retrievers generated 11 shots on goal, while the Lancers had two.
Amara Codd made two saves to record her third clean sheet of the season and her second in the last three games. The victory was UMBC’s third consecutive win against Longwood.

UMBC Opens America East Play at University of Vermont
UMBC will open America East Conference play at the University of Vermont on Sept. 20 at noon. The Retrievers are also scheduled to host New Hampshire on Sept. 27, the University at Albany on Oct. 4, Binghamton on Oct. 11, and Maine on Nov. 1.
