Salisbury University men’s soccer defeated the Baruch College Bearcats 2-1 Sunday, Sept. 13, at Jaime L. Roberts Stadium in St. Mary’s City, Maryland. The Sea Gulls won their fourth consecutive game, improved to 4-0-1, and captured the Seahawk Classic.
The victory marked Salisbury University’s best start through five games since 2014. The Sea Gulls held an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal at halftime and finished with an 8-1 shots on goal edge.
David Brunetti Converts Salisbury’s Second Goal
Jack Schwarz opened the scoring nearly nine minutes into the second half when his shot glanced off the goalkeeper’s hands and crossed the line. The goal was Schwarz’s first career score and gave Salisbury the lead.
Liam Pierce earned a foul inside the box, setting up David Brunetti for a penalty kick. Brunetti converted, doubling the Sea Gulls’ advantage. The goal was Brunetti’s third in four games, and he finished with five shots.
Baruch cut the deficit when Andreas Kotronis scored on a penalty kick late in the match. Salisbury received a red card in the 82nd minute but held on to secure the one-goal victory.
Salisbury Men’s Soccer Holds Off Baruch
David Brunetti created Salisbury’s first shot in the 11th minute, which was saved by Baruch’s goalkeeper. George Ogilvie and Yasseen Mohamed also had shots on target that were turned aside.
Martin Parrish added three shots, and Nicolas Chinchilla played all 90 minutes on the backline. Nate Jones earned the victory in goal as Salisbury captured the Seahawk Classic crown.
Salisbury is scheduled to host Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
