Bowie State University football lost to Delaware State 21-6 on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Alumni Stadium in Dover, Del. The Bulldogs entered the game with a 0-2 record and controlled possession for 33 minutes and 48 seconds but went 0-for-3 in the red zone and missed two field-goal attempts.
Bowie State totaled 287 yards, including 160 passing yards and 127 rushing yards. Delaware State had 391 total yards, with 167 passing and 224 rushing, scoring all three touchdowns on the ground.
Bulldogs Score Their Only Touchdown in the Third Quarter
Bowie State’s sole touchdown came at 11:19 of the third quarter when Kyle Hawkins connected with Konner Blount-Foster on a 31-yard touchdown pass. However, a blocked extra-point attempt kept Delaware State ahead 7-6.
Blount-Foster caught four passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. Hawkins, who entered the game due to a minor injury to starting quarterback Jaylin Solomon, completed both of his pass attempts for 52 yards and a touchdown.
Delaware State responded with two rushing touchdowns in the third quarter: an 18-yard run at 6:17 and a 10-yard run following a Bowie State fumble at 1:53, pushing their lead to 21-6.
Defensive Efforts Keep Delaware State from Scoring More
Bowie State’s defense prevented Delaware State from scoring on three of six red-zone possessions. Khalil Travers intercepted a pass in the fourth quarter and contributed a tackle, but the Bulldogs could not convert turnovers into points.
The Bulldogs reached the Delaware State 5-yard line early in the fourth quarter but were stopped on fourth down. Later, another fourth-down stop near the goal line maintained the 21-6 deficit.
Ashton Mayeux led Bowie State with 11 total tackles, including seven solo stops. The team forced two turnovers and allowed three sacks in the loss.
Bowie State Prepares to Face Alabama A&M
Bowie State will travel to Huntsville, Ala., to play Alabama A&M University on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.

Bowie State converted seven of 14 third downs and saw notable performances from Blount-Foster, Hawkins, and Mayeux. However, the Bulldogs’ inability to capitalize in the red zone, coupled with two missed field goals and Delaware State’s dominant rushing attack, limited their scoring.
The Bulldogs will continue their road schedule at Alabama A&M next week.
