The University of Maryland Eastern Shore cross country program completed its second meet of the season Sept. 11 at the Delaware State University Sting Invitational in Smyrna, Delaware. Senior Siyabonga Mbatha led the UMES men27s 5K performance by placing fourth in 15:43.3, recording his first top-five finish of the season.
Junior Fidelis Osunkwo followed with a time of 17:48.3. Delaware State University runners Lekan Sotonwa, Marian Drazan and Jonathan Drew finished ahead of Mbatha, while Lucky Mailia of Coppin State placed fifth in 15:45.4.

On the women27s side, freshman Lila Moore made her season debut and led UMES with a 25:59.5 finish in the 5K. Ketarah Johnson finished in 27:06.6.
The final team scores for the women27s 5K were Delaware State 16, Morgan State 63, Coppin State 98, Bowie State 104, Lincoln (Pa.) 105, and University of District Columbia 151. The women27s top five finishers included Delaware State’s Rebecca Jansen, Ilianna Surowiec, Madison Peterson, and Reut Shahar, along with Crystal Coke of Morgan State.
In the men27s 5K, final team scores were Delaware State 22, Coppin State 47, Morgan State 85, UMES 100, Lincoln (Pa.) 143, Bowie State 165, and Cheyney 180.
University of Maryland Eastern Shore Announces Home Meet
UMES will host its first meet of the season Saturday, Sept. 19, in Princess Anne, following its appearance at the Delaware State University Sting Invitational.
