University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women’s Volleyball Drops Four-Set Match to Navy Despite Shayla Henry’s 11 Kills

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore women’s volleyball team lost to Navy, 3-1, on Sept. 12, 2026, at the ODU Volleyball Center in Norfolk, Virginia, in the Hawks’ opening match of the Old Dominion Tournament. UMES won the first set 25-20, but Navy responded with wins of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-17.

Shayla Henry led the Hawks’ attack with 11 kills, hitting .206. Malaysia Shaw added nine kills on 15 attempts with a .467 hitting percentage, while Karielys Melendez and Rayah Howell each recorded eight kills.

UMES Women’s Volleyball Leaders

Kate-Linh Eden recorded 26 assists, 11 digs and two service aces for the Hawks. Arianna Warner-Torres led the match with 16 digs as UMES finished with 42 kills and 52 digs.

Dynasty Andrews led the Hawks with eight total blocks, including seven block assists. Howell added five total blocks, and UMES finished with 10 total blocks.

Navy hit .252 for the match, while UMES hit .130. The Hawks entered the contest with a 1-6 record.

Next Match for UMES Women’s Volleyball

The Hawks will close the Old Dominion Tournament against host Old Dominion University on Sept. 13. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the ODU Volleyball Center.

UMES took the opening set before Navy won the final three. Henry led the Hawks in kills, while Shaw delivered the highest hitting percentage among the listed contributors. The Hawks will next face Old Dominion University in the tournament finale.
