Gabriela Rodriguez Scores Three as Howard Community College Women’s Soccer Falls 4-3 to CCBC Catonsville

Gabriela Rodriguez scored three goals, including two in the first half, but Howard Community College Women’s Soccer fell 4-3 to CCBC Catonsville Tuesday in Columbia, Maryland.

Rodriguez recorded nine shots with six on goal. She scored twice in less than five minutes during the first half before adding her third goal after halftime.

Howard Community College Responds to Early Deficit

CCBC Catonsville took an early lead when Gianna Barracato scored in the 19th minute on an assist from Stephanie Ohl. Ohl scored in the 24th minute to give the Cardinals a 2-0 advantage.

Howard Community College responded through Rodriguez, who scored on a long shot from midfield in the 26th minute. Rodriguez then converted a penalty kick after Cecilia Hannibal received a direct red card for a handball that resulted in the penalty.

CCBC Catonsville regained the lead before halftime when Ohl scored her second goal. Madison Falby also received a direct red card for a last-defender foul, and the Cardinals took a 3-2 lead into the break.

CCBC Catonsville Holds Off Howard Community College

Barracato scored her second goal in the 53rd minute, with Ohl providing the assist, to extend CCBC Catonsville’s lead to 4-2. Ohl finished with two goals and assisted on both of Barracato’s goals.

Rodriguez completed her hat trick in the 61st minute, with Anica Munoz assisting on a long free kick. Howard Community College also had a penalty kick in the 52nd minute, but Catonsville goalkeeper Kayla Cox saved Rodriguez’s attempt.

Cox made six saves for CCBC Catonsville, while Shyann Hansen made nine saves for Howard Community College. Howard finished with 13 shots and four corner kicks, compared with 20 shots and three corner kicks for the Cardinals, and held a 9-4 advantage in second-half shots.

Howard Community College Women’s Soccer Schedule

Howard Community College is scheduled to host Harford Community College on Friday, Sept. 11, at 4:30 p.m.

Rodriguez’s three goals kept Howard Community College within reach, but CCBC Catonsville’s four-goal effort and Cox’s penalty-kick save preserved the one-goal victory.
