The Notre Dame of Maryland University men’s soccer team scored twice in the final two minutes but fell to Methodist 3-2 on Sept. 12 at Turf Field Sponsored by the SSNDs in Baltimore. The loss was Notre Dame of Maryland’s first of the season.
Methodist Men’s Soccer Takes Early Lead
Methodist scored in the sixth minute on a free kick before adding two penalty-kick goals. Josh Mott scored Methodist’s first goal and added one of the penalty kicks, while Garrett Panos converted the other.
Methodist carried a 3-0 advantage into the final minutes, but Notre Dame of Maryland found its offense late. The Gators finished with two shots on goal, compared with seven for Methodist.
Notre Dame of Maryland Rallies Late in Men’s Soccer Match
Kim O’Sullivan put Notre Dame of Maryland on the scoreboard with a header from Martin Rasiwala in the 89th minute. Leon Awesso followed 44 seconds after the restart, with Cooper Thompson providing the assist.
These two goals were the only shots on target for the Gators.
The late goals cut Methodist’s lead to one, but Notre Dame of Maryland could not complete the comeback. The result left the team with a 1-1-1 record on the season.
