Frostburg State Women’s Volleyball Opens Slippery Rock Tournament With 3-0 Loss

Frostburg State women’s volleyball opened the Slippery Rock Tournament with a 3-0 loss to host Slippery Rock on Friday, Sept. 11, in Slippery Rock, Pa. Slippery Rock won the sets 25-16, 25-18 and 25-20.

The loss dropped Frostburg State to 2-6, while Slippery Rock improved to 4-4. Frostburg State hit .065 in the match, compared with a .200 hitting percentage for Slippery Rock.

Alliyah McNair Leads Frostburg State Women’s Volleyball

Alliyah McNair led Frostburg State with 10 kills. Miranda Ball recorded 13 digs, while Pia White had 10 digs.

Frostburg State took an early 6-2 lead in the opening set after Slippery Rock errors, a kill from Maya Johnson and an ace by Ball. Slippery Rock responded with an 8-1 run and went on to claim the set, 25-16.

The Bobcats led 10-7 in the second set after contributions from Gabrielle Morris, McNair, Grace Yocham and Raegan Philips. Slippery Rock then took seven of the next nine points and pulled away for a 25-18 victory.

Frostburg State trailed 5-1 in the third set before Johnson, McNair, Yocham and Judy Steffens helped the Bobcats take an 11-10 lead. Frostburg State later held a 17-15 advantage, but Slippery Rock tied the set at 20-20 and won the final five points.

Frostburg State Women’s Volleyball Schedule

Frostburg State was scheduled to continue the tournament Saturday, Sept. 12, against Bloomsburg at 10 a.m. and Roberts Wesleyan at 2 p.m. The team was also scheduled to host Concord on Sept. 18 before visiting Point Park on Sept. 22.

The schedule also includes a home match against Davis & Elkins on Sept. 25 and a visit to Wheeling on Sept. 29.

MSB Analysis

Frostburg State women’s volleyball produced leads in all three sets but could not maintain them against Slippery Rock. The hosts closed the first two sets with runs and finished the third by winning the final five points.
