The Chesapeake Baysox lost to the Richmond Flying Squirrels, 1-0, on Friday night at CarMax Park in Richmond, Virginia, despite another strong performance from right-hander JT Quinn. Quinn extended his scoreless-inning streak to 10 frames with his second consecutive scoreless start.
Quinn allowed four hits and two walks while striking out three. The first-year professional recorded his fifth scoreless start of the season after the Baltimore Orioles selected him 69th overall out of the University of Georgia last year.
JT Quinn Keeps Richmond Scoreless
Quinn threw 20 pitches across the first two innings, including a four-pitch opening frame. Richmond loaded the bases with one out, but Quinn escaped with an inning-ending double play before completing his outing with his third strikeout.
Chesapeake also had an early scoring opportunity. Griff O’Ferrall led off with a 10-pitch walk, stole second and advanced to third on an errant throw. However, Ethan Anderson flew out to right field and O’Ferrall was tagged out at the plate trying to score.
Richmond Scores the Only Run
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Gavin Kielin hit a solo home run to right field off Chesapeake right-hander Brandon Downer. Downer was making his Double-A debut and took the loss.
Richmond left-hander Jacob Bresnahan earned the win after throwing seven shutout innings. He allowed four singles and one walk, while right-hander Tyler Vogel finished the game with a scoreless ninth inning and earned his 16th save.
The Baysox had the tying run on base in both the eighth and ninth innings but could not score. Chesapeake left-hander Micah Ashman pitched a scoreless ninth inning and lowered his season ERA to 1.79.
Chesapeake Baysox Set for Saturday Game
Chesapeake entered the game with a 37-29 record in the second half and a 66-68 overall record. The Baysox will continue their final series of the 2026 season against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Saturday night in Richmond.
Pat Reilly is scheduled to start for Chesapeake, while Greg Farone is scheduled to start for Richmond. Reilly has a listed Double-A record of 0-2 with a 3.97 ERA, and Farone has a listed record of 5-11 with a 5.64 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at CarMax Park.

The Chesapeake Baysox received five scoreless innings from Quinn and another scoreless frame from Ashman, but Kielin’s solo home run supplied the only run of the game. Bresnahan’s seven shutout innings kept the Baysox from turning their late baserunners into a tying run.
Chesapeake put the tying run on base in each of the final two innings but could not complete the comeback.
