Bowie State University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams opened the 2026 season on Sept. 12 at the Delaware State University Sting Invite in Smyrna, Delaware. The women’s team placed fourth overall with 104 points, while the men’s team finished sixth with 165 points.
Bowie State University Women’s Cross Country Finishes Fourth
Leilani Gibson led Bowie State University women’s cross country by placing eighth overall in the women’s 5-kilometer race with a time of 21:35.4. Emetem Bezezuh followed in 10th place at 22:07.4.
Destinie Mayo placed 25th in 24:50.3, while Anijah Medley finished 36th in 26:51.8. Sydney Anderson completed Bowie State’s scoring five in 38th place with a time of 28:33.2.
The women’s team recorded a combined time of 2:03:57 and an average time of 24:47. Delaware State, Morgan State and Coppin State finished ahead of the Bulldogs in the team standings.
Bowie State University Men’s Cross Country Places Sixth
Sean Trader paced Bowie State University men’s cross country by finishing 15th overall in 17:33.2. Freshman Chase Garcia was the Bulldogs’ next finisher, placing 28th in 18:40.7.
Keshon Tate finished 43rd in 23:11.7, followed by Michael Price in 44th at 23:25.3. Kevin Joy completed Bowie State’s scoring lineup with a 45th-place finish in 26:06.0.
The men’s team posted a combined time of 1:48:56 and averaged 21:47 per runner. Delaware State won the men’s team competition, followed by Coppin State, Morgan State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Lincoln (PA).
The field included Delaware State, Morgan State, Coppin State, Lincoln (PA), Maryland Eastern Shore and Cheyney. The meet marked the opening competition of the 2026 season for both Bowie State Bulldogs teams.
Virginia State Challenge Next
Bowie State University’s men’s and women’s cross country teams are scheduled to compete at the Virginia State Challenge on Sept. 25 in Ettrick, Virginia. The women’s 5-kilometer race is scheduled for 4 p.m., followed by the men’s 8-kilometer race at 4:45 p.m.
