Frostburg State University men’s soccer earns first MEC win with 3-1 victory at Wheeling

Frostburg State University men’s soccer earned its first Mountain East Conference win of the season Wednesday, defeating Wheeling 3-1 in Wheeling, W.Va. The Bobcats improved to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0-1 in conference play with the road victory. Spencer Davis, Frank Stare and Abdallah Soulemana scored for Frostburg State.

Frostburg State took a 1-0 lead in the first half when Spencer Davis finished a bicycle kick into the top-left corner. Abdallah Soulemana assisted on the goal, and the Bobcats carried the advantage into halftime.

Frostburg State adds two second-half goals

Frank Stare doubled Frostburg State’s lead in the second half, with Mateo Cuadros providing the assist. Wheeling responded with a goal from Joergen Bjerkreim, assisted by Enzo Boulaoued and Pablo Prieto, to make the score 2-1.

Abdallah Soulemana restored Frostburg State’s two-goal advantage with an assist from Frank Stare. Josiah Emerson made three saves for the Bobcats, who held an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.

Wheeling fell to 1-3-0 overall and 0-2 in conference play. Frostburg State entered the match after earning its first-ever ranking in the United Soccer Coaches poll, according to the team recap.

Frostburg State will host West Liberty on Wednesday, September 16, at 7 p.m. in Bobcat Stadium. The match is the Bobcats’ next scheduled contest.
