Mount St. Mary’s University women’s rugby fell to LIU, 29-28, in its 15s season opener Sept. 5 in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Rugby entered the 15s season 0-1 after LIU held off a late push and prevented a try in the final three minutes.
LIU Builds Early Lead
LIU scored two tries and one conversion during the first 30 minutes. Sydney Sibilia then scored Mount St. Mary’s first try, and Shaniah Mayers converted to make the score 12-7 entering halftime.
LIU opened the second half with three tries and one conversion during the first 10 minutes, extending its lead to 29-7. Mount St. Mary’s responded with tries from Brie Kindig and Neely Denlinger, while Mayers converted both scores.
Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Rugby Holds LIU Scoreless
Mount St. Mary’s held LIU scoreless for the remainder of the game. Rachel Camiglio recorded 10 of Mount St. Mary’s 69 tackles as the team prevented LIU from reaching the try line again.
Denlinger also was awarded penalty points after LIU player Savanah Owens received a yellow card for a hard shove to Denlinger’s back. Mount St. Mary’s reached the try line in the final three minutes but did not score before time expired.
Mount St. Mary’s Women’s Rugby Hosts La Salle Next
Mount St. Mary’s women’s rugby is scheduled to host La Salle on Saturday, Sept. 19, on its home turf. Kickoff is set for noon.

Mount St. Mary’s University women’s rugby erased much of a 22-point second-half deficit by scoring twice and holding LIU scoreless for the rest of the game. The late try-line push did not produce a winning score, leaving Mount St. Mary’s 0-1 in the 15s season.
