Frostburg State University Men’s Soccer Draws No. 17 Davis & Elkins as Josiah Emerson Makes Eight Saves

Frostburg State University men’s soccer played No. 17 Davis & Elkins to a 1-1 draw Sunday in Frostburg, Maryland. Graduate goalkeeper Josiah Emerson made a career-high eight saves, including a penalty-kick stop with less than five minutes remaining, helping Frostburg State remain unbeaten.

Frank Stare put Frostburg State ahead in the first half with a penalty kick. Stare collected a long pass, moved into the box, drew the foul, and then sent Davis & Elkins goalkeeper Charlie Philips the wrong way from the spot.

Frostburg State Men’s Soccer Fends Off Late Pressure

Davis & Elkins controlled much of the second half and found the equalizer when Lautaro Fernandez scored after Emerson stopped an earlier effort. Johan Magana assisted Fernandez’s goal as the Senators finished with an 18-5 advantage in shots, including a 14-1 edge in second-half attempts.

With less than five minutes remaining, Emerson made a save on an effort from Otoniel Umana Alvarez. After the rebound fell to Magana, a sliding challenge from Jesse Boamah resulted in a penalty kick. Emerson dove to his right to stop Magana’s attempt and preserve the draw.

Davis & Elkins held a 9-1 advantage in shots on goal. Frostburg State also received defensive contributions from Spencer Davis, who cleared an effort off the line, and David Williams, whose header hit the crossbar.

Frostburg State Moves to 2-0-2

The draw moved Frostburg State to 2-0-2 on the season, while Davis & Elkins moved to 1-0-1. Frostburg State will play at Wheeling on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 7 p.m.
