Hood College women’s volleyball lost both matches of its first tri-match of the season Saturday, Sept. 5, in Frederick, Maryland. Notre Dame (MD) defeated Hood College 25-14, 25-21, 25-18, before Shenandoah University earned a 27-25, 25-19, 25-19 victory. The results dropped Hood College to 0-4 on the season.
Notre Dame (MD) Sweeps Hood College
Notre Dame (MD) built an early 6-1 lead in the opening set, but Hood College cut the deficit to 10-9. The Gators then used a 7-0 run to take a 21-11 advantage before closing the set 25-14.
Hood College again faced an early deficit in the second set, trailing 7-3. A kill by Grace Tamburin and a service ace from Anna Huber helped the Blazers pull within one point at 7-6, and Kendall Massey later served an ace that tied the set at 11-11. Notre Dame (MD) pulled away late to win 25-21.
Hood College opened the third set with a 4-1 lead after a Tamburin kill. Notre Dame (MD) answered by tying the set at 4-4, and Hood College later cut the deficit to 15-12 before the Gators completed the sweep with a 25-18 win.
Shenandoah University Wins Three-Set Match
Hood College started its match against Shenandoah University with a 10-2 lead. Jaylin Anderson connected with Sami Betley as the Blazers extended their advantage to 16-6, but Shenandoah University gradually closed the gap and took a 24-21 lead.
Hood College rallied to tie the opening set at 24-24, but Shenandoah University secured the final points for a 27-25 win. The Hornets carried that momentum into the second set, overcoming a Hood College lead to win 25-19.
Hood College held an early 10-9 advantage in the third set after a kill by Emerson O’Connor and a service ace from Isabelle Garrett. Shenandoah University then built a 17-9 lead and finished the match with another 25-19 victory.
Hood College Women’s Volleyball Leaders
Mary LeBlanc led Hood College with 10 kills across the two matches. Maria Ricketts recorded 25 assists in both matches and added 14 digs, while Janiyah Thornton finished the day with four blocks.
Hood College is scheduled to host Gallaudet University on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at 7 p.m.

Hood College showed competitive stretches in both matches, including an early lead against Shenandoah University and several close sets against Notre Dame (MD). The Blazers will seek their first victory of the season when they host Gallaudet University.
