Frostburg State University Women’s Volleyball Team Falls to Pitt-Johnstown and Walsh at Bobcat Invitational

Frostburg State University Women’s Volleyball Team lost both matches at the Bobcat Invitational on Sept. 4, falling 3-0 to Pitt-Johnstown and 3-1 to Walsh in its tournament home opener. The losses dropped Frostburg State to 2-4 on the season.

Frostburg State Falls to Pitt-Johnstown

Pitt-Johnstown won the opening match 25-23, 25-15 and 25-23. Frostburg State built an early 7-3 lead in the first set and later pulled within 23-22, but Pitt-Johnstown scored the final two points to take the frame.

Judy Steffens led Frostburg State with eight kills. Alyssa Stanton recorded 14 digs and two aces, while Gabrielle Morris and Kayla Greene combined for 11 blocks. Frostburg State posted a .049 hitting percentage, compared with .196 for Pitt-Johnstown.

Walsh Wins Four-Set Match

Walsh opened the second match with a 25-16 win, but Frostburg State answered by taking the second set 25-23. Walsh secured the match with victories of 25-21 and 25-22 in the final two sets.

Alliyah McNair led Frostburg State with 14 kills, and Grace Yocham added 11. McNair also contributed four blocks and two assists. Miranda Ball led the team with 22 digs, followed by Allison Brown with 19 and Pia White with 14.

Frostburg State recorded a .131 hitting percentage against Walsh, while Walsh hit .210. Frostburg State took a 13-7 lead in the fourth set after an eight-point run, but Walsh answered with a 10-1 run and held on for the win.

Frostburg State’s Tournament Continues

Frostburg State was scheduled to conclude the Bobcat Invitational against Shippensburg on Saturday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m. The match follows the team’s two losses on Sept. 4.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

Frostburg State produced a second-set win against Walsh and made late pushes against Pitt-Johnstown. The team will enter its scheduled match against Shippensburg at 2-4.
