The Hood College womens volleyball team fell 3-0 to Catholic University in their 2026 season opener on Tuesday evening in Frederick, Maryland. Catholic University won the sets 25-20, 25-16 and 25-23.
Cam Madden led Hood College with nine kills, four aces and 10 digs. Maria Ricketts recorded 16 assists and 10 digs, while Madison Powell added three blocks.
Hood College Womens Volleyball Pushes Catholic University in Third Set
Catholic University took an early 7-3 lead in the opening set, but Hood College responded with a run and moved ahead 13-11. Catholic University regained control and closed out the set, 25-20.
The Cardinals opened the second set with a 7-0 advantage. Hood College cut the deficit to 11-10 before Catholic University pulled away for a 25-16 win.
Hood College battled throughout the third set, including a kill by Emerson OConnor. After Catholic University held a 16-14 lead, Hood College tied the set at 21, but Catholic University secured the match with a 25-23 victory.
Statistical Leaders in the Match
Mary LeBlanc, Cam Madden and Emerson OConnor each recorded kills in the match. Hood College held a 23-22 advantage in assists, but Catholic University finished ahead in digs, 39-33, and blocks, 7-3.
Laci Freitas led Catholic University with six kills. Julia Raab recorded five aces, and Anna Maria Carella had eight digs.

Hood College fell to 0-1, while Catholic University improved to 1-0. Hood College will host McDaniel College on Thursday, September 3, at 7 p.m.
