Vance Honeycutt’s first Double-A home run gave the Chesapeake Baysox a 9-7, 10-inning victory over the Harrisburg Senators on Aug. 28 at FNB Field in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Honeycutt went 4-for-6 with four extra-base hits and four RBIs, recording the first four-hit game of his professional career.
Honeycutt puts Chesapeake ahead in the 10th
Honeycutt doubled in the first inning and added another double in the third. He scored Chesapeake’s first run on an Ethan Anderson groundout before giving the Baysox their first lead with a two-run triple in the fourth.
Chesapeake scored four runs in the fourth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Victor Figueroa followed Honeycutt’s triple with a run-scoring single and later scored on an error.
Harrisburg’s Ethan Petry hit a solo home run in the third inning, and T.J. White added an RBI double in the seventh. The Senators also tied the game in the sixth when two walks came around to score on a two-out error.
Baysox answer twice late
Chesapeake tied the game again in the eighth inning. Frederick Bencosme walked to lead off the frame, and Fernando Peguero entered as a pinch runner before stealing second and advancing to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, Anderson drove in his second run of the night with a ground-ball single through the right side.
The tie held until the 10th, when Honeycutt hit a two-run home run with one out against Harrisburg right-hander Sandy Gaston. The homer marked Honeycutt’s first at Double-A and gave Chesapeake the lead.
The Baysox added an insurance run when Anderson reached on an error with two outs and Thomas Sosa singled him home. Sosa recorded his third three-hit game of the season and reached base five times.
Tavian Josenberger made a key defensive play in the seventh inning by throwing out a runner attempting to advance to third from left field. The play prevented an additional Harrisburg run from scoring.
Micah Ashman earned the win to improve to 2-1 after working a scoreless ninth and returning for the 10th. Harrisburg scored on a sacrifice fly and loaded the bases with two outs, but Ashman struck out Elijah Green to end the game.
Chesapeake Baysox schedule
The Chesapeake Baysox entered the game with a 30-24 record in the second half and a 59-63 overall record. Chesapeake is the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, while Harrisburg is the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals.
The Baysox were scheduled to continue the series at the Harrisburg Senators on Saturday, Aug. 29, with first pitch set for 6 p.m. Pat Reilly was scheduled to start for Chesapeake against Yoel Tejeda Jr.
Chesapeake also planned to begin a six-game homestand against the Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6:35 p.m. The Portland Sea Dogs are the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

Sosa’s five times on base, Anderson’s two RBIs and Josenberger’s defensive assist also contributed to the victory. Ashman then finished the win by stranding the tying and winning runs in the 10th inning.
