Delmarva Shorebirds Rally After Falling Behind
The Shorebirds ended a 25-inning scoreless streak in the first inning when Carlos Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly, marking the first RBI of his professional career and giving Delmarva a 1-0 lead.
Fredericksburg tied the game in the fifth inning with Avery Ortiz’s RBI double. Manuel Cabrera followed with a sacrifice fly that put the Nationals ahead 2-1.
Brayan Orrantia pitched 4.2 innings in relief for Delmarva, allowing two runs while recording five strikeouts and two walks. The Shorebirds tied the game in the seventh inning when Joshua Liranzo scored on a wild pitch.
Félix Amparo Delivers the Go-Ahead Hit
In the eighth inning, Félix Amparo delivered an RBI single that scored Ty Head to put Delmarva ahead 3-2. Hector Campusano then hit a sacrifice bunt that allowed Jimmy Anderson to score, extending the Shorebirds’ lead to 4-2.
Andrew Herbert recorded the final 10 outs without allowing a run to earn the win, improving to 6-3. Adam Boucher took the loss for Fredericksburg, falling to 0-1.
The Fredericksburg Nationals loaded the bases with two outs in the final inning, but Herbert induced a game-ending groundout from Coy James to secure the victory for Delmarva.
Saturday’s Series Continuation
The Shorebirds will seek a second consecutive win on Saturday against the Fredericksburg Nationals. Collin McKinney is scheduled to make his home debut for Delmarva, facing Fredericksburg pitcher Marlon De La Cruz. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Entering the game, Delmarva held a 43-81 overall record with a 20-38 record in their division, while Fredericksburg had a 73-50 overall record and 27-30 in their respective split.
