Maryland Black Bears Forward Harrison Smith Commits to the University of St. Thomas

Maryland Black Bears forward Harrison Smith has committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for the University of St. Thomas in the NCHC. The Wellington, Florida, native will join the Tommies following his junior hockey career.

Smith led the North American Hockey League (NAHL) with 96 points in 49 regular-season games during the 2025-26 season. He recorded 24 goals and a league-leading 72 assists for the Maryland Black Bears.

Harrison Smith Led the NAHL in Scoring

Smith recorded at least one point in all but five of Maryland’s regular-season games. He added 34 power-play points, 32 multi-point games, a plus-42 rating and five game-winning goals.

His performance earned Smith the NAHL Most Valuable Player and Forward of the Year awards for the 2025-26 season. He also earned selections to the All-NAHL Team and All-East Division Team. Additionally, he was named an East Division Star of the Week twice this season.

Smith Helped Maryland Win the Robertson Cup

Smith recorded 24 points, including five goals and 19 assists, in 10 postseason games as the Maryland Black Bears won the Robertson Cup. He had only one postseason game without a point.

Smith holds the NAHL postseason record for most points in postseason play. Maryland won the championship with four consecutive overtime victories, with Smith playing a key role in the third period of each contest.

Maryland Black Bears Career Totals

During his 2024-25 rookie season, Smith recorded 55 points in 55 games, including nine goals and 46 assists. He was named to the NAHL All-Rookie Team that season.

Smith has accumulated 175 points in 114 NAHL games with the Maryland Black Bears, including 38 goals and 137 assists. He is one of 11 Maryland Black Bears players to make a Division I hockey college commitment.
