Chesapeake Baysox Defeat Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3 as JT Quinn Earns First Double-A Win

The Chesapeake Baysox defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels 4-3 on Aug. 22, 2026, in Bowie, Maryland, as JT Quinn earned his first Double-A victory in his home Baysox debut. Quinn allowed two runs over five innings, while Fernando Peguero recorded a home run, a double and two RBIs for Chesapeake.

Chesapeake improved to 26-22 in the second half and 56-61 overall. The Baysox are the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, while the Richmond Flying Squirrels are the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.

JT Quinn Earns First Double-A Victory

Quinn retired the first seven batters he faced and finished with five innings, five hits allowed, two runs allowed, two strikeouts and no walks. The right-handed starter gave the Chesapeake Baysox five innings of two-run ball in his home debut.

Christian Herberholz followed with two scoreless innings and struck out three batters. Jeisson Cabrera pitched a scoreless eighth inning before issuing two walks in the ninth, bringing Gerald Ogando into the game.

Ogando recorded the final two outs and struck out both batters he faced to earn his second save of the season. Richmond scored its third run on Zane Zielinski’s ninth-inning RBI single, but Ogando finished the game with consecutive strikeouts to preserve the victory.

Fernando Peguero and Colin Tuft Provide the Offense

The Chesapeake Baysox opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning. Tavian Josenberger singled and scored from first on Fernando Peguero’s RBI double, and Peguero later scored on Wehiwa Aloy’s RBI double.

Peguero hit his third Double-A home run of the season in the fifth inning, giving Chesapeake a 3-2 lead. He finished with a home run, a double and two RBIs.

Colin Tuft extended the advantage in the seventh inning with his first Double-A home run. Tuft was promoted to Chesapeake from High-A Frederick earlier in August 2026 and was batting .364 (4-for-11) with one home run and two RBIs in four games against Richmond that week.

Chesapeake Baysox Continue Strong Series Pitching

Chesapeake starters had a 2.00 ERA through the first five games of the series against Richmond, allowing six earned runs across 27 innings. Baysox starters also recorded 21 strikeouts against six walks during that span.

The Chesapeake Baysox will host the final game of the six-game series against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Sunday at Prince George’s Stadium. Sebastian Gongora is scheduled to start for Chesapeake against Richmond left-hander Greg Farone, with first pitch scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

Maryland Sports Blog Take

The Chesapeake Baysox received five effective innings from Quinn, extra-base production from Peguero and Aloy, and late-inning strikeouts from Ogando. That combination allowed Chesapeake to withstand Richmond’s ninth-inning push and secure a 4-3 victory.
