D.C. United Soccer Takes Lead on Louis Munteanu Goal Before 3-1 Loss to Charlotte FC

D.C. United fell 3-1 to Charlotte FC on Aug. 22, 2026, at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina, after Louis Munteanu gave the visitors a second-half lead. Charlotte FC scored three times in a 13-minute span to win the 2026 MLS regular-season match.

Louis Munteanu Puts D.C. United Ahead

After a scoreless first half, Louis Munteanu finished a João Peglow set piece in the 55th minute for his sixth goal of the season. Peglow recorded the assist as D.C. United moved in front.

Charlotte FC answered in the 64th minute through David Schnegg. Will Cleary scored two minutes later with an assist from Pep Biel, and Pep Biel completed Charlotte FC’s three-goal stretch in the 77th minute on a pass from Liel Abada.

D.C. United continued to press until the final whistle, winning three corners in stoppage time. Munteanu nearly scored again with a header in the 89th minute, but Charlotte FC secured the victory.

D.C. United Finishes With Nine Corners

D.C. United finished with 17 shots, five shots on goal and nine corners. Charlotte FC recorded 12 shots, five shots on goal and four corners.

João Peglow finished with one assist, six defensive contributions and 86 minutes played. Lucas Bartlett completed 90 minutes with seven clearances and seven recoveries.

The loss moved D.C. United’s all-time regular-season record against Charlotte FC to 2-6-1. D.C. United is 0-4-1 against Charlotte FC on the road in regular-season matchups.

D.C. United is 2-3-6 on the road during the 2026 MLS season.
