The University of Maryland Eastern Shore announced on Aug. 10, 2026, that Edgar Vanegas will join its men’s baseball coaching staff as a graduate assistant coach ahead of the 2027 season. Vanegas brings experience from high school, college, and camp settings, and he is expected to contribute significantly to the Hawks’ baseball program as it prepares for the upcoming season.
Vanegas Coached at Greenbrier High School
Vanegas spent the 2025-26 season as an assistant baseball coach at Greenbrier High School in Greenbrier, Tennessee. He assisted with daily practice planning, drill execution, and individualized player development while providing instruction on mechanics, fundamentals, and game awareness. He also directed game-day operations, including warmups and in-game adjustments, and worked with school staff to support student-athlete academic progress.
Previous Experience at Talladega College and Camp Winadu
Before joining Greenbrier High School, Vanegas spent two seasons as a student assistant baseball coach at Talladega College from 2023-25. He assisted with practice planning, drill development, and player evaluations while providing instruction during practices and games. His responsibilities at Talladega included injury-prevention and recovery efforts, travel logistics, equipment management, and game-day operations. Additionally, Vanegas served as a baseball coach and general counselor at Camp Winadu in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. There, he worked with athletes ages 10-16 on baseball fundamentals, confidence building, and team development while providing mentorship in a camp environment.
Vanegas Played Baseball and Soccer at Talladega College
Vanegas played baseball for Talladega College from 2021-25 and competed in soccer there during the 2022 season. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology with a minor in biology from Talladega College in 2025. He will join the University of Maryland Eastern Shore baseball coaching staff as the program prepares for the 2027 season.
