The Delmarva Shorebirds fell to the Salem RidgeYaks, 9-3, Friday night in Salisbury, Maryland. Andruw Musett’s three-run homer helped the Salem RidgeYaks defeat the Delmarva Shorebirds 9-3 and seize an early lead. Delmarva entered the game with a 39-73 overall record and a 16-30 mark, while Salem entered at 49-61 overall and 24-21.
Salem Takes Early Control
Andruw Musett opened the scoring with a three-run home run in the second inning. Later in the inning, Kleyver Salazar singled home Wills Maginnis, putting Salem ahead 4-0.
Jhomnardo Reyes drove in Delmarva’s first run with a single in the third inning. Salem answered with three runs in the fifth, receiving RBI hits from Andrews Opata, Skylar King and Anderson Fermin to extend its lead to 7-1.
Shorebirds Trim Deficit
Delmarva cut into the deficit in the bottom of the fifth when Jimmy Anderson delivered an RBI single for his second hit of the game. Ty Head added a run-scoring single in the sixth inning to bring the Shorebirds within 7-3.
The Salem RidgeYaks restored their six-run advantage in the eighth inning. Wills Maginnis and Franklin Primera each delivered an RBI hit as Salem moved ahead 9-3.
Delmarva finished 3-for-17 with runners in scoring position and stranded 12 runners. The Shorebirds could not produce the big inning needed to overcome Salem’s advantage.
Pitching and Saturday’s Scheduled Starters
Nicholas De La Cruz earned the win in relief for Salem and improved to 5-3. Delmarva starter Harrison Kreiling took the loss and fell to 0-2.
The series was scheduled to continue Saturday, with Esteban Mejia set to start for the Delmarva Shorebirds against Sadbiel Delzine of the Salem RidgeYaks. First pitch was scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
