University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball head coach Chelsea Holiday announced the additions of Paige Whittington, Tre Hobbs and Alexis Shadowens to her coaching staff on Aug. 12, 2026. These three appointments complete Holiday’s inaugural staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.
UMES Softball Adds Whittington, Hobbs and Shadowens to Coaching Staff
Paige Whittington joins the Hawks after an outstanding playing career at Bluefield State University. She was named the 2026 CIAA Player of the Year, earned First Team All-CIAA honors, and was an NFCA Division II Atlantic Region First Team selection. Whittington ranked among the nation’s top offensive players, batting .461 with 71 hits and 52 stolen bases in her senior year. Known for her slap-hitting and baserunning skills, she will bring valuable offensive expertise and baserunning techniques to the Hawks’ lineup.
Tre Hobbs comes to UMES after three seasons as head softball coach at Mississippi Delta Community College, where he oversaw recruiting, budgeting, scheduling, fundraising, player development and game strategy. Hobbs led a significant turnaround for the program, improving team batting average, ERA, fielding percentage, and conference wins. His teams excelled academically with a GPA above 3.3, and he coached multiple All-Conference athletes and produced a Division I signee. Prior to that, Hobbs was an outfield and hitting instructor at Coahoma Community College and also coached high school baseball and softball.
Alexis Shadowens joins from Bluefield State University, where she served as an assistant softball coach handling daily operations, player development, practice planning, team logistics, and administrative tasks while promoting a positive team culture. Shadowens played collegiately at Bluefield State and Dyersburg State Community College, earning MVP and First Team All-Conference honors during her senior season. She transitioned into coaching after a successful playing career.
Coach Holiday expressed enthusiasm about the new staff, stating, “I’m incredibly excited to welcome Paige, Tre, and Alexis to Hawk Nation. Each brings unique strengths to our program and shares a passion for developing student-athletes, competing at a high level, and building a culture based on accountability and excellence. This staff will have a tremendous impact both on and off the field.”
With their combined experience in coaching, player development, recruiting, and competitive play, the trio will be pivotal in shaping the future of UMES softball as the Hawks prepare for the upcoming season.
