The Frederick Keys defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 3-1 Saturday night, Aug. 8, at ShoreTown Ballpark in Lakewood, New Jersey. The victory marked the Frederick Keys9 fifth straight win over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws and secured victory in game five of the series.
Jersey Shore scored one run on seven hits, while Frederick pitching did not allow an earned run for the second consecutive night. Kyson Witherspoon began his time with the Frederick Keys and the Orioles organization by pitching a scoreless first inning.
Frederick Keys Rally After Early Deficit
The Jersey Shore BlueClaws scored the game9s first run on an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth inning. A strikeout by Witherspoon kept the inning to one run and sent the game to the fifth with Jersey Shore leading 1-0.
Fernando Peguero tied the game for the Frederick Keys with a two-out RBI triple in the top of the fifth inning. Witherspoon and Braeden Sloan then combined to keep the BlueClaws scoreless in the bottom half of the inning.
After both teams went scoreless in the sixth inning, the Frederick Keys took the lead in the seventh. A wild pitch brought Leandro Arias home from third base, and Fe9lix Amparo followed with an RBI single to give Frederick a 3-1 advantage.
Evan Yates Records Final Nine Outs
Evan Yates threw a scoreless bottom of the seventh inning to preserve the two-run lead. He needed four pitches to retire the side in order in the eighth before recording the final three outs in the ninth.
The performance completed the Frederick Keys9 3-1 victory and their fifth consecutive win over the Jersey Shore BlueClaws.

The Frederick Keys and Jersey Shore BlueClaws are scheduled to meet Sunday afternoon in the series finale at ShoreTown Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m.
