Gunston School Promotes Erin DeFalco to Director of Athletics

Gunston School promoted Erin DeFalco to Director of Athletics after she served as Associate Director of Athletics and School Transportation Coordinator. DeFalco previously was Assistant Athletic Director at Severn School, where she oversaw scheduling, transportation logistics, social media management and game-day operations.

DeFalco Advances at Gunston School

DeFalco joined Gunston School last year and became an essential member of the school’s leadership team, according to Head of School John Lewis. Under her guidance, the rowing and sailing programs reached new heights, and her work was essential to Gunston School’s successful application to the IAAM.

“I am delighted to share that we have promoted Mrs. Erin De Falco to the role of Director of Athletics,” said Gunston Head of School John Lewis. “Mrs. De Falco joined Gunston last year as Associate Director of Athletics and School Transportation Coordinator, and immediately established herself as an essential member of our leadership team. Under her guidance, both our rowing and sailing programs reached new heights, and her work was essential to our successful application to the premier girls athletics league in Maryland, the IAAM.”

Lewis also praised DeFalco for raising the profile of Gunston School’s athletic program through her management of the athletic department’s Instagram account. Gunston School is located along the Chester River and has one of the largest school waterfront programs in Maryland.

Experience Across Athletic Operations

Before joining Gunston School, DeFalco served as Assistant Athletic Director at Severn School. Her responsibilities included IAAM and MIAA scheduling, transportation logistics, social media management and game-day operations.

DeFalco also helped recruit coaching talent and supported Severn School’s waterfront athletics programs. She coached lacrosse, field hockey, soccer and basketball while at Severn School and helped launch and advise the school’s Admiral TV Club.

DeFalco’s Playing and Academic Background

DeFalco earned a bachelor’s degree in communications from Salisbury University, where she played on the nationally ranked women’s lacrosse team. During her collegiate career, she received Division III All-America, All-Region and All-Conference honors.

She later earned a master’s degree in Sports Industry Management from Georgetown University. Her background includes athletic administration, coaching, communications and support for waterfront athletics programs.
