The Chesapeake Baysox lost 3-2 to the Harrisburg Senators on Aug. 6, 2026, in Bowie after Sam Brown hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning. Joseph Dzierwa delivered six scoreless innings for the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, but Harrisburg rallied late to win.
The Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, trailed 2-0 before Brown’s one-out homer gave them their only lead. The Baysox were retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Joseph Dzierwa Delivers Six Scoreless Innings
Dzierwa allowed four hits, issued no walks, and struck out nine batters across six innings. The Orioles’ No. 4 prospect via MLB.com recorded six of his strikeouts among the final 10 batters he faced.
Including his previous start at Altoona, Dzierwa has not allowed an earned run in his last two starts. He has struck out 14 batters and allowed six hits across those 11 innings.
Harrisburg left-handed starter Josh Hartle also kept the game scoreless through the early innings. Hartle retired the first 13 batters he faced and allowed one run over five and one-third innings.
Chesapeake Baysox Take Sixth-Inning Lead
The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning, when Chesapeake moved in front. Adam Retzbach opened the inning with a single before Harrisburg brought in right-hander Robert Cranz, and Brandon Butterworth reached on a fielder’s choice that replaced Retzbach on the bases.
Wehiwa Aloy then walked, and De Los Santos followed with a two-run single to center field. The hit scored Butterworth and Aloy and gave the Baysox a 2-0 advantage.
Butterworth also helped preserve the scoreless game in the second inning. With Harrisburg runners at second and third and no outs, the Chesapeake center fielder threw out a tagging runner at home on an outfield assist.
Sam Brown’s Ninth-Inning Homer Lifts Harrisburg
Richard Guasch kept Chesapeake ahead with two scoreless innings. The right-handed reliever struck out three batters and did not allow a hit against Harrisburg, where he pitched from 2022 through 2024.
Ryan Long entered for the top of the ninth and took the loss after a one-out double and a walk put runners on base before Brown’s decisive home run. Long moved to 1-2 with the result.
Luke Young earned the win for Harrisburg and moved to 3-0 after pitching two scoreless innings. He finished the game by inducing a groundout and recording two strikeouts in the bottom of the ninth.
Chesapeake Baysox Continue Seven-Game Series
The Chesapeake Baysox entered the game with a 20-16 second-half record and a 49-55 overall record. The loss came as the Baysox continued a seven-game series against the Harrisburg Senators.
Chesapeake is scheduled to send right-hander Pat Reilly to the mound Friday at Prince George’s Stadium. Reilly is scheduled to start with a 0-1 record and an 8.68 ERA, while Harrisburg is scheduled to start right-hander Yohel Tejada Jr., who has a 0-1 record and a 5.40 ERA. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
