The Washington Redskins make a huge splash in the opening days of free agency, inking S Landon Collins, the former New York Giants second-round pick, for six-years at a whopping $84 million dollars.
The Redskins, Indianapolis Colts, and Dallas Cowboys were allegedly the top suitors for Collins, but the Redskins get their man for the next six years, as reported by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. A lot of the money is guaranteed, $45 million in the first three years to be exact.
Collins is a powerful, hard-hitting box safety who makes plays at the line of scrimmage as a run-stuffer. He plays physically, and at 25 years of age, has a lot of ball left in him. Fans might be disappointed in the big contract that pays Collins a ton of money despite his average coverage ability, but the All-Pro safety from Alabama more than makes up for it with excellent run defense and leadership ability.
With this hole filled, the Redskins can pivot towards filling out the offense, or sign another piece in the secondary that needs help opposite Josh Norman.
