D.C. United Stays Alive, Beats Chicago 2-1

In yet another crucial match at Audi Field today, D.C. United secured a very important three points to stay alive. The match ended with a score of two to one, in a D.C. win against the Chicago Fire. This win is huge because D.C. had to win to stay alive after the Montreal Impact beat Columbus Crew SC three to none at the Stade Saputo in Montreal. Now, they are back behind Montreal by 2 points.

The goal scoring didn’t start until the 51st minute, when Raheem Edwards, a forward who the Fire got this summer from Toronto FC, scored to give the Chicago Fire a 1-0 lead. Then, D.C. scored eleven minutes later in the 62nd minute, with Wayne Rooney scoring on his own rebound after Chicago goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland turned it aside. Then, D.C. United got a lucky break when Johan Kappelhof fouled midfield Junior Moreno in the 80th minute. Two minutes later, Wayne Rooney scored on the PK, his second goal of the day, securing a D.C. United win.

D.C. United’s next match is at home against the ever dangerous FC Dallas. In order to take sixth place in the East, they must win and take advantage of the fact that the Montreal Impact has a week off.
