Nationals Outlast Brewers For 5-4 Win

No amount of rain could halt the Washington Nationals parade to victory against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Before the game, the Nationals had a video tribute for recently traded pitcher Gio Gonzalez, who departs the Nationals after nearly seven seasons with the ballclub.

The game started out as a defensive struggle between pitchers Stephen Strasburg and Chase Anderson. After four scoreless innings, the Brewers scored first with a single by Jonathan Schoop assisted by an error by Anthony Rendon to take a 1-0 lead. Milwaukee then doubled this lead with a single by Christian Yelich to take a 2-0 lead through four and a half innings. Fastforward to the eighth inning when the game went into an extensive rain delay with the Nationals trailing 3-1. Once the rain let up, the Nationals bats began to rain down hits on the Brewers. Trea Turner got the scoring started with a single to draw Washington to within one at 3-2. Juan Soto then put the Nationals ahead at 4-3 with a two run single. The Nationals added on thanks to a wild pitch from Jordan Lyles. This set the stage for the ninth inning. With the Nationals leading 5-3, Justin Miller gave up a leadoff home run to Tyler Saladino before retiring the next three batters to secure a 5-4 Nationals victory.

Nationals will attempt to win the series later today as Max Scherzer takes the mound at 1:35 PM.
