Bowie Baysox Weekly Recap 6/19-6/24

The Bowie Baysox kick this week off with a 29-37 record, while they have been struggling as of late I think the offense will start to get hit again and the Baysox will win more games. Here is a recap from each game this past week.

Game 1: 6/19/18: Baysox 5 Senators 4

Gabriel Ynoa makes another rehab appearance this time going 4 innings and only allowing a run. Reid Love came In to allow 2 earned runs in 2 innings of work. The game was tied going into the tenth as the offense pulled through for a 2 run lead off of a 2-run Aderlin Rodriguez single. Tanner Chleborad and Branden Kline to hold the Senators. The player of the game is Aderlin Rodriguez.

Game 2: 6/20/18: Baysox 4 Senators 9

Brian Gonzalez did not get the start he was looking for as he went 4.2 innings and allowing 5 runs (4 earned runs) What killed him in this start was he surrendered 5 walks. Luis Ysla came in to allow 4 runs (2 earned) Offensively the only production was a Colby Rasmus home run and a Anderson Feliz home run.

Game 3: 6/20/18: Baysox 6 Senators 8

Michael Kelly does not pitch well in the second game of the doubleheader as he went 4 innings and allowing 5 earned runs. Matthew Grimes was charged with the loss as he pitched 2 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. Offensively Anthony Santander led the way with 2 hits, Ryan Mountcastle and Aderlin Rodriguez homered, despite their efforts it was not enough.

Game 4: 6/21/18: Baysox 2 Senators 1

Keegan Akin was masterful as he went 7 innings allowing 1 earned run and striking out 9, that could be the best start of the season for him. Luis Gonzalez earned the save as he went 2 scoreless innings. In this pitchers duel the difference was a D’Arby Myers double in the top of the 4th scoring Mountcastle and Santander. Mountcastle, the DH, led the way with 3 hits. Ryan McKenna also made his debut in Bowie after his promotion from Frederick. It was a well deserved promotion as he tore it up at the Single-A Advanced level. McKenna unfortunately went 0-5 but most players struggle for a couple games after being promoted.

Game 5: 6/22/18: Baysox 6 Flying Squirrels 5

Lucas Long was not wonderful but he did keep the Baysox in the ballgame he went 4.2 innings and allowing 4 earned runs. Tanner Chleborad allowed a run in the 6th. Offensively Ryan McKenna is searching for that 1st Double-A hit but is unable to do it. However he did walk twice in 3 trips to the plate. Ryan Mountcastle has 2 hits with a RBI, including a triple. The player of the game is Ryan Mountcastle.

Game 6: 6/23/18: Baysox 9 Flying Squirrels 4

Luis Ysla was great on the mound to start as he went 5 strong innings of one run ball. Ysla struck out a miraculous 8 batters. Jay Flaa allowed 3 earned runs in 2 innings of work. Ryan Mountcastle was incredible with a perfect 4-4 on the day, Including a triple. Ryan McKenna had been his first 2 hits at the Double A level, and a RBI. Anderson Feliz also had 3 hits. The player of the game goes to Ryan Mountcastle for a perfect day at the plate.

Game 7: 6/23/18: Baysox 1 Flying Squirrels 5

Eddie Gamboa makes his debut in Bowie, he started off going 3.2 innings and only allowing 1 earned run. I’m not exactly sure why he was pulled so early, he was only at 66 pitches. Reid Love got the loss after pitching 1.2 innings and allowing 3 earned runs. Luis Gonzalez allowed a run in .2 innings of work. The offense was rather quiet but Mountcastle and Santander each had multiple hits, including a Santander home run.

Game 8: 6/24/18: Baysox 3 Flying Squirrels 10

Matthew Grimes got the ball and was solid through 5 only allowing 1 earned run. Tanner Chleborad allowed 2 earned runs and Branden Kline was charged with the loss after allowing 1 unearned run in 1.1 innings of work. Ryan McKenna led the way with 2 hits, while Rifaela, Cervenka, and Salecedo each had hits for RBIs.

While this was not the successful week the Baysox were hoping for it was a better week, the pitching and hitting were each a little better. Hopefully they can get back to their full potential this week coming up.
