Frederick Keys weekly recap 4-12

The Frederick Keys open the year with a talented roster looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish in 2017. With players like Alex Wells, a healthy Jomar Reyes, and several others there is a good chance they can compete this season. The Keys, in the first week of the season, starting the season 4-3 are looking good but inconsistent. Here is a recap of each game.

Game 1: Keys 6 Pelicans 2
9 hits to start the season for the Keys. Alex Wells, arguably the best prospect on the Keys, goes 4.1 innings, giving up only 2 runs and striking out 6. Wells got too high on his pitch count and was pulled at 81 pitches.
Player of the Game: Randolph Gassaway 1-3, 3 RBIs

Game 2: Keys 10 Pelicans 0
The first shutout of the year. Great overall game from the Keys. Christian Alvarado goes 6 striking out 6. Preston Palmeiro and Ryan McKenna both finished with 3 hits.
Player of the Game: Ryan McKenna 3-5 with 1 RBI

Game 3: Keys 6 Pelicans 4
Despite Cody Sedlock giving up 3 earned runs in 4 innings with just 2 strikeouts. But the offense came to save the day with a couple players having multiple hits. Preston Palmeiro with another solid day going 3-4 and an RBI. Preston Palmeiro is your player of the game.

Game 4: Keys 0 Pelicans 3
The Keys only put 3 hits across the board the whole game. Lucas Humpal goes 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs. Jomar Reyes had a walk and a hit and he is the player of the game.

Game 5: Keys 0 Mudcats 5
The Keys get shutout again but this one was not as bad as the last. The offense puts together 7 hits. Brian Gonzalez starts the game going 4.2 innings, giving up 3 runs (only 1 earned) but he did strikeout 8.
Player of the game: Brian Gonzalez

Game 6: Keys 12 Mudcats 1
Randolph Gassaway goes 3-5 with 2 RBIs. Ofelky Peralta in his first start of the year goes 4 innings, giving up 1 run, and striking out 4.
Player of the game: Randolph Gassaway

Game 7: Keys 2 Mudcats 3
Alex Wells bounces back going 6 innings, only giving up 2 hits, and one unearned run, striking out 5. Ryan McKenna goes 3-5 but no RBIs. Another thing to note is they committed 5 errors.
Player of the Game: Alex Wells

The Keys are giving up a lot of unearned runs it seems so that is an area to improve in. Consistency will be “key” for the Keys this year.
