Navy Midshipmen Men’s Lacrosse Held Off #14 Lehigh Hawks

Playing on the road is no easy task but the Navy Midshipmen took care of business by deafeating the #14 Lehigh Hawks, 10-7.

In Bethleham, PA today, the Mids scored first, and never let go of that lead.

In the first quarter, two Mids scored for combined three goals; Christian Daniel (with the assist from Jack Ray), and Casey Rees (first assisted by Greyson Torain, the second by Ray). Lehigh scored once, from Ian Strain.

The second quarter was less eventful for Navy, as Daniel scored the lone goal of the quarter, versus Lehigh’s three. Going into halftime, the score was tied 4-4, but Navy never let Lehigh take the lead.

After coming back, Navy’s Michael Strack had no problem finding Ray for a goal within 1:54 of the start of the third quarter/second half. Just four minutes later, Strack and Ray teamed up again for goal number six. Three minutes passed, with no answer from Lehigh, when Daniel found Dave Little for Navy’s seventh goal. In the last three minutes of the third, Lehigh scored twice… but wait, there’s more! With 23 seconds left of the quarter, Daniel found Torain for goal number 8 for Navy. End of quarter: 8-6.

Fourth quarter rolled around with two Navy goals, both from Torain; the first was assisted by Ryan Wade, while the second was unassisted. Lehigh did make their last goal from Tristen Rai with 3:46 left in the game.

Navy had 19 turnovers while Lehigh had 11. Navy 16 shots on goal, Lehigh 25. Navy’s goalie Ryan Kern played the entire game and had 18 saves.

Navy is now 4-1 in Patriot League play, and will return to action Saturday March 31, 12pm faceoff, at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium hosting fellow PL contender Holy Cross.
