Vitek Vanecek has been named NHL rookie of the month.

For the first month of the young hockey season, the Washington Capitals had to turn to rookie goaltender Vitek Vanacek because the starting goaltender was on the covid list. Vanecek has a stellar 0.913 save percentage only allowing 24 goals through 8 games played. His goals against average is 2.94 which is exceptional. Because of these great stats and his superb play, Vanecek has been named the NHL rookie of the month for the league. Coming into this season, he had never played a minute of an NHL game. He is the first goaltender to get the honor for the Capitals since Michal Neuvirth who got the honor in 2010. He went 5-0-2 during the month, never losing in regulation.
