Towson Football Preview: Bucknell

Fall means the return of football in America. A beautiful time for everyone, regardless of fan base. The boys in Towson kick off their season today as the take on Bucknell on the road. Game time set for 7pm EST from Lewisburg PA. Rob Ambrose, for the 13th straight year, leads the Tigers as the head coach. The Tigers have won the past two meetings over the Bison in 2019 and 2020. Towson has also won its last 4 season openers and will look to continue that streak.

As far as I know I don’t think there has been a decision on the quarterback position. The two that could potentially be are UAB transfer Tyler Johnston or former Maryland and WKU transfer Tyrrell Pigrome III. Pigrome helped lead the Terps to a big win over an overrated Texas team in Austin back in 2018. He was at WKU and then potentially Ole Miss before ending up at Towson. Towson also has Zach Jackson, a transfer from Maryland in the mix. The Tigers have a number of transfers, which should give them some help and experience on both sides of the ball. Towson also features a handful of players from Baltimore and Maryland in general.

Towson DL Jesus Gibbs was named to the Resse’s Senior Bowl watch list back in August. The Virginia product has been an athletic freak enters his 3rd season for the Tigers and has racked up the tackles in his time here. Towson also features 2 Preseason All-Conference Awards lists: Fullback/Tight end Luke Hamilton andWide Receiver and return specialist D’Ago Hunter. Both will need to play up to that level on offense to help give the Tigers offense some juice. The Tiger will need their transfers to fill the holes as Towson returns only 8 starters total from last year (4 on each side of the ball)

On defense the Tigers are led by Vinnie Shaffer, a team captain who had 38 total tackles last year and Charles Peeples who has 30 total tackles. Add in Gibbs and their defensive transfers and the defense has the potential to be a solid unit.

A quick glance at Bucknell:

Bucknell has been picked to finish 7th in their conference. A former conference rival of the Tigers, the Bison have 2 quarterbacks that they primarily use in junior Nick Semptimphelter and Sophomore Ethan Grady. Senior Brett Jackson leads the defense as a returner with 76 tackles and 1.5 for a loss. The Bison have struggled mightily in terms of winning games and are coming off a 1-10 campaign.

It should be an interesting game. Go Tigers!
