Orioles power over Giants, win 9-6: Game recap 5/31/19

The Orioles hosted the San Francisco Giants for game one of this three-game set. The first two innings was a whole game in itself.

Andrew Cashner started the game tonight, and he got rocked early. The Giants batted around in the top of the first, netting five runs before the Orioles even got a chance to bat.

To follow the Giants big inning, the Orioles had a huge one of their own in the bottom of the first. Renato Nunez and Pedro Severino each singled in a run to cut the lead to 5-2.

Dwight Smith Jr came to the plate with bases loaded, and he hammered a Grand Slam out to centerfield. This massive shot gave the Orioles the lead 6-5. In the bottom of the first. Both teams batted around, and scored a collective eleven runs in the first inning.

The Giants tied the game with leadoff solo home run off Orioles starter Andrew Cashner to start the second inning.

The Orioles again answered the Giants right away, with Trey Mancini’s eleventh home run of the season. This two run shot gave the Orioles the lead for good at 8-6 in the bottom of the second.

After a huge offensive showdown for the first two innings, the pitching on both sides finally got it together.

Andrew Cashner was relieved by Paul Fry to start the sixth inning. Cashner tossed five innings, allowing six runs off six hits. That’s also including a horrendous five walks and zero strikeouts.

The Birds would add an insurance run in the seventh, off Renato Nunez’s fourteenth home run of the year. Nunez has been on an absolute tear lately, and is showing no signs of slowing down. The Orioles extending the lead to 9-6.

Andrew Cashner improves to 6-2 after today’s win, and Richard Bleier recorded his second save.
