Orioles lose in extras 4-3 to Astros: Recap 6/7/19

The Baltimore Orioles started a three-game set in Houston tonight, looking to take game one against the 43 win Astros.

Gabriel Ynoa got the start for this game, and he held the league’s best offense in check. Over six innings pitched, Ynoa allowed three runs off three hits and held the Astros scoreless until the fifth inning.

Rio Ruiz put the Orioles on the board early, singling in two runs to take a first inning 2-0 lead.

Chance Sisco came to the plate in the third, and he launched his first home run of the season off Astros starter Gerrit Cole. This bomb gave the Birds a 3-0 lead.

The Astros finally got to Gabriel Ynoa in the fifth, when he gave up a solo home run, followed by a two-run home run later in the inning.

The Orioles bullpen was lights out tonight, holding the Astros offense scoreless as this game entered extra innings, the Orioles’ second in three games.

Shawn Armstrong, Richard Bleier, and Mychal Givens combined for four innings, allowing only one hit between the four.

Branden Kline came in relief to start the eleventh. After giving up a single, Kline gave up another single that barely scored the game winning run, after a beautiful outfield relay that almost caught the runner at home. After review, the safe call was upheld, although it appeared that the runner had never touched home plate.

However, the Orioles dropped game one 4-3. This was the Orioles’ third loss in a row by one run. Branden Kline takes the loss and moves to 1-3.

The MSB Orioles Player of the Game is starting pitcher Gabriel Ynoa, who kept the O’s in the game by holding a stellar offense to just three runs in six innings.

Catch the Orioles as they try to even up the series with the Astros at Minute Maid Park Saturday at 4:10 p.m. ET.
