Nationals fall to Braves 4-2; recap: 9/5/19

The Washington Nationals lost their series opener to the Braves with a 4-2 finish. This leaves the Nationals at 78-61 and eight games behind the first-place Braves, and following a win from the Chicago Cubs, the Nationals face the risk of losing home field advantage for the National League Wild Card game next month.

Stephen Strasburg threw six innings that yielded four hits three runs, four walks, and seven strikeouts. Hunter Strickland, Roenis Elias, and Fernando Rodney provided decent relief. Unfortunately, Elias departed the game in the eighth inning, following what appeared to be another hamstring injury. The Nationals’ only runs came in the form of a two-run home run from Victor Robles.

Tomorrow, Patrick Corbin will duel Dallas Keuchel in a must-win lefty-lefty matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. ET.
