Nationals beat Tigers 2-1: Recap 6/30/19

The Washington Nationals beat the Detroit Tigers Sunday afternoon at Comerica Park in regular season action. The Nationals record currently stands at 42-41. The Tigers drop to 27-52.

Max Scherzer pitched a very strong eight innings for Washington. Scherzer allowed four hits and had an impressive 14 strikeouts.

Sean Doolittle allowed one hit and one strikeout in relief for Washington. Doolittle now has a total of 100 career saves.

In the top of the fourth inning, catcher Kurt Suzuki tallied an RBI single, giving the Nats a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the eighth, third baseman Anthony Rendon homered to right (366 feet), which would give the Nats the game-winning run.

With a win over the Tigers, the Nationals head home to play the Miami Marlins starting Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. ET.
