Capitals vs Buffalo, Backstrom’s 1000 game

The Washington Capitals look to continue their scoring output against the Buffalo Sabers. This will be Nichlas Backstrom’s 1,000th game in the NHL. In the past two games the Capitals have put up an astonishing 14 goals in two games. The last game also saw new Capital, Anthony Mantha score and get an assist. Let’s look at keys to winning the game tomorrow.

The team has been fantastic finishing chances and scoring in the offensive zone. As long as they continue to implement precision tape to tape passing, and work the puck around to find the weak zone, then there should be no problem finishing at the net. Everyone is getting in on scoring goals from all four lines as well.

The defense is superb right now. The team is getting the puck out of the defensive zone right away, finishing checks, and using the forcheck to make shots hard for opposing team. This is helping to start break outs, and also let the goalies have limited vulnerability. This is the most important part of the game.

Finally, the team is limiting the penalties they take, and taking advantage of the oppertunities given to them. By taking less penalties, it maximizes the time they can play 5-5 hockey and 5-4 hockey if the opponent takes a penalty.

The game is on NBC sports Washington and can be heard on 106.7 fm
