Ravens sign Cox waive Davis

File:Derek Cox 2013.JPGThe Baltimore Ravens have signed cornerback Derrick Cox and waived undrafted wide receiver Jace Davis, the Ravens announced today. The Ravens top three cornerbacks have been out with injuries and the Ravens needed to add depth there. The Ravens already lost Aaron Ross for the season and have Jimmy Smith, Asa Jackson and Lardarius Webb on the mend. Read more about Ravens sign Cox waive Davis

Ravens cancel practice with 49ers

120px-Ray_Rice_run_during_SB_XLVIIThe Baltimore Ravens have cancelled their Friday practice with the San Francisco 49ers because of logistical issues. The issues seem to be a players union issue because teams can only practice so many straight days.  The Ravens and 49ers have a close relationship to say the least because of Jim and John Harbaugh.

The practice would have been a treat for fans to see and really good for both teams.

Here is the Ravens press release.  Read more about Ravens cancel practice with 49ers

Urban tears ACL, out for the season

Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Brent Urban tore his ACL yesterday in practice and will be done for the season. Urban was drafted in the fourth round of the NFL draft and was really impressing coaches during mini camps and training camps and looked to have a spot in the Ravens defensive line rotation.

This is a tough loss for Urban and the Ravens. Urban is still a raw player and could have used his rookie season to develop, now he will have extra time to study the game. ACL injuries are harder to recover from for bigger athletes but Urban is young enough that he should be ok.  The good thing for the Ravens is that they are very deep on the defensive line.  Read more about Urban tears ACL, out for the season

Webb's back injury could be a big concern

89px-Lardarius_Webb_2012Baltimore Ravens starting corner Lardarius Webb has missed most of training camp with a back injury.  There looks to be no structural damage to Webb’s back which is a good sign but the fact that he is still not practicing is something to be worried about.  The Ravens are thin at corner right now with the loss of Aaron Ross and the fact that Chykie Brown has not had a good camp.

The Ravens right now are taking things easy with Webb.  Webb is a very good corner when healthy and they need him to start opposite of Jimmy Smith.  The Ravens may look to add more cornerback depth as the training camp and preseason go on.  Read more about Webb's back injury could be a big concern

Ravens sign Norman, waive Sheppard

The Baltimore Ravens have signed defensive back Marrio Norman and waived Gerrard Sheppard.  Sheappard is a local product out of Towson University and a wide receiver, his chances of making the team were very slim.  Norman also looks like a camp body, he played his college football at Coastal Carolina and recently played Arena Football.  I see Norman as a practice squad player at best.

The Ravens do need more defensive backs as Aaron Ross was just put on injured reserve and Lardarius Webb has been out of practice with a back injury.  Read more about Ravens sign Norman, waive Sheppard

Local rookie Campanaro impressing at camp

wpid-1399850558276.jpgThe Baltimore Ravens held their first public practice last night at M&T Bank Stadium and several players stood out from the reports I got. One player that has stood out all camp has been local rookie Michael Campanaro as twitter blew up with praise for the young player. The Ravens beat writers have praised Campanaro all camp for his great hands and quickness off the snap. Here are a few of the tweets that praised Campanaro. Ravens and 49ers to hold joint practices

120px-Ray_Rice_run_during_SB_XLVIIThe Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers will hold four joint practices together after their preseason game, head coach John Harbaugh said.  The Ravens usually do not hold joint practices during training camp so this will be something new to them.

Having a joint practice with the 49ers makes sense.  The head coaches are brothers and the 49ers do have to travel across the country to play.  The trip will be more meaningful for the 49ers now that they will be staying a few days.
